IntroductionIn this clincial case study, Simply Natural Dentures are used to replace the patient's existing denture. This case demonstrates the simplicity of denture cases.Figure #1Obtain an accurate impression from your patient. -
Figure #2It's important to clearly capture all anatomical landmarks. -
Figure #3Notice the definition of anatomic landmarks. -
Figure #4When the lab receives your case, occlusion rims are created. The rims are constructed on your master models. We carefully place two central incisors using the median suture line as our midline. -
Figure #5These two teeth provide a simple guide for you to portray the patient's esthetic information and bite relation to the laboratory. -
Figure #6You'll receive the occlusion rims prior to the patient's second appointment. Place the upper rim and check the midline and incisal edge position. -
Figure #7If needed, heat the wax with a hot spatula and reposition the teeth. Taking a few minutes to reposition the teeth will ensure that your case has proper esthetics and minimal adjustments at the setup/try-in. -
Figure #8Now from the profile, check the lip support; adjust if necessary. Once you are satisfied with the position of the teeth, make sure they are well secured in the wax. -
Figure #9Ask the patient to smile broadly and mark the upper line on the rim. This line dictates where the teeth and acrylic tissue meet. -
Figure #10The next step is to obtain vertical and centric relation. If an existing denture is available, place a mark on the patient's nose and anywhere on the chin. -
Figure #11With the patient's existing dentures in place, measure the dimension and retain it for reference. -
Figure #12Now place the occlusion rims and modify them to the prior reference point. -
Figure #13If you wish to open or close the vertical dimension, simply remove wax until you've reached the desired point. -
Figure #14When you're satisfied, notch the occlusion rim. -
Figure #15Take a bite registration over this area. -
Figure #16Now, select the brand and shade of teeth for the denture setup. -
Figure #17In the lab, your occlusion rims are used to mount the case. The technician carefully places the teeth in accordance with the esthetic information provided. -
Figure #18Next, the technician contours the wax around the teeth recreating a natural gingival appearance. -
Figure #19The setup is then returned to your office for the wax try-in. At this third appointment, evaluate the setup by placing it intraorally. Verify esthetics and centric relation. -
Figure #20You will aslo need to verify the midline position, incisal edge length, lip support and centric relation. -
Figure #21If adjustments are required, simply heat the wax with a hot spatula and reposition the teeth making sure they are secure in wax. -
Figure #22If the centric relation is off, remove the lower posterior teeth. -
Figure #23Add soft wax to this area. -
Figure #24Re-establish the correct relation. If you are not comfortable with making these changes, you may indicate them on the prescription form, but try to be as specific as possible. -
Figure #25Once the setup has been approved by you and your patient, send it back to the lab for fabrication of the final prosthesis. -
Figure #26The last step for the lab is to turn the wax setup into the completed acrylic denture. Denture teeth are permanently bonded to the acrylic, creating a denture that will hold up for many years in the patient's mouth. -
Figure #27After the processing is completed, the technician contours the denture to fit and function comfortably. -
Figure #28Next, the denture is polished to a very high luster, which resists staining and plaque buildup. -
Figure #29When you deliver the Simply Natural Denture, some adjustment may be necessary to eliminate obvious discomfort. -
Figure #30It's important for the patient to know that their new denture may feel different than their previous denture. Request to see the patient 24 hours later (next day) to check for sore spots and to adjust the occlusion again, if necessary.
